Component delivery milestone for 108 MW private wind project in Western Cape

Construction of the 108 MW Witberg wind farm has reached a key milestone with the delivery of all 216 wind turbine components to site, logistics contractor Sarens confirmed. The facility is expected to enter commercial operation in the first quarter of 2026. Sarens described the project as South Africa’s largest privately developed wind farm to date.



Developed by Sibanye-Stillwater and operated by Red Rocket Energy, Witberg will comprise 24 Vestas V136-4,5 MW turbines with an installed capacity of 108 MW and a contracted output of 103 MW.



Located between Touws River and Laingsburg in the Western Cape, the facility is expected to supply electricity to more than 122 000 households.



Turbine installation is scheduled to begin in the coming months ahead of first power in early 2026.
