The upgrade and rehabilitation project commenced in March and is expected to be completed by February 2028.

Commuters and motorists were unexpectedly delayed after they were stuck on the road for over an hour at the N4 Manjeza (N4 Crocodile Gorge) upgrade and rehabilitation project on Wednesday, September 17.

This project is underway between KaNyamazane and Matsulu and it is expected to be finished in February 2028.
For the past months, road users have had to experience delays due to the stop-and-go, however, on Wednesday they said the waiting period drastically increased.

A commuter who was stuck on the road said they get to work late.

“Usually we are notified about the stop-and-go or other delays. It is unfair to delay workers and students this long, especially in the morning during rush hour.”

TRAC communication manager Solange Soares said: “The night-time stop-and-go was scheduled to be lifted at 05:00, however, due to an unexpected breakdown of one of the tipper trucks used for speed hump installations, the stop-and-go had to remain in place to allow the work to be completed safely.”

Soares explained that the stop and go was lifted at 12:00 and currently traffic is moving slowly.

“TRAC apologises for the inconvenience caused. Roadworks are, at times, unpredictable, and unforeseen delays may occur. Please be assured that we continue to prioritise road user safety, reliability and world-class infrastructure development. We thank to all road users affected for their patience and understanding,” she said.
