Flora Park residents have praised Polokwane Municipality for replacing the entire tar road on Boshoff Street after months of rain damage.

POLOKWANE – Residents along parts of Boshoff Street (between Marshall Street and McDonald Avenue) in Flora Park have praised the Polokwane Municipality after recent road maintenance crews replaced the entire tar road along the busy stretch.

Community members and the municipality confirmed the repairs came after months of damage caused by rain, which left parts of the road difficult and unsafe to drive.

‘Good work deserves recognition’

While acknowledging that the response “took a while” and that the construction was somewhat inconvenient, residents in Boshoff Street said they still felt it was important to recognise the municipality’s good work and efforts.

Municipality intensifies road maintenance

Polokwane Municipality spokesperson Thipa Selala told Polokwane Observer that the municipality has intensified its road maintenance programme to address potholes and rain-related damage across the city.

“While progress is being made one street at a time, other repairs are underway in multiple areas to improve road safety and driving conditions.

“Where roads have deteriorated beyond the point where patching is no longer a viable solution, full rehabilitation is being undertaken to ensure long-term solutions, just like we did in Boshoff Street,” Selala said.

Jetpatcher machine on the way

In a further boost to service delivery, Polokwane Mayor John Mpe announced during the recent State of the City Address that the municipality will procure its own Jetpatcher machine, a highly efficient and innovative technology that will significantly strengthen the fight against potholes and accelerate road maintenance efforts throughout the municipality.

Residents urge more work across the city

Residents welcomed the work and urged the municipality to continue urgently addressing similar issues in other parts of the city.

The repairs have already improved traffic flow along the street, according to most motorists in the area. The municipality has also started marking the street with white paint for visibility of lanes and speed humps.
