With potholes and cracks posing a growing risk, the City of Ekurhuleni outlines which roads will be fixed—and when —following widespread complaints from residents.

On March 12, the Alberton Record published an article highlighting the worsening state of roads in the area, with a particular focus on Hart Avenue toward Toon van den Heever Street.

This follows frustration expressed by councillor Tim Denny regarding the deteriorating infrastructure, especially the potholes and damage that plague key routes throughout the area.

The reality is that many of Alberton’s roads are in critical condition, with potholes, large cracks, and uneven surfaces creating a hazardous environment for both motorists and pedestrians. These issues force drivers to swerve or slow down abruptly, increasing the likelihood of accidents. Safety concerns are growing as the condition of these roads continues to worsen.

In response to these concerns, the Alberton Record reached out to the City of Ekurhuleni on March 12, requesting an update on when the rehabilitation of Hart Avenue toward Toon van den Heever Street would begin, as well as a broader timeline for addressing potholes throughout Alberton.

Zweli Dlamini, spokesperson for the City of Ekurhuleni, confirmed that Hart Avenue toward Toon van den Heever Street is on the list of current road rehabilitation projects, with work expected to be completed by the end of the current financial year, which concludes on June 30.
