City launches road resurfacing project in Cape Town’s CBD

The City of Cape Town’s Urban Mobility directorate has announced the commencement of road resurfacing in various areas within the city centre.

Residents in Gardens, Oranjezicht, Vredehoek and Tamboerskloof should take note of this important maintenance work, which began this week and will continue until 21 May 2024.

Road resurfacing will take place between 9am and 3:30pm from Monday to Friday, with the possibility of night work on Signal Hill Drive from 7:00pm to 05:00am and over weekends.

Councillor Rob Quintas, Mayoral Committee Member for Urban Mobility, highlighted the scope of the project, which includes resurfacing roads, painting road markings, applying new asphalt surfacing layers and conducting repairs on identified roads.

Additionally, cleaning of stormwater infrastructure will be carried out in preparation for the upcoming rainy season.

The initial focus of the roadworks is on Signal Hill Drive, with work progressing systematically across the designated areas.

Councillor Quintas expressed gratitude to road users for their patience during this period.

Roads earmarked for resurfacing include:

• In Gardens: Glen Crescent, Invermark Crescent, Hofmeyr Street, Union Avenue, Rustic Road, Kotze Street, Ivanhoe Street, Camp Street, Dorman Street, Malan Street and Leeuwendal Crescent
• In Oranjezicht: Hiddingh Avenue, Rosebank Place and Schoonder Street
• Signal Hill Drive and Lions Head
• In Tamboerskloof: Quarry Hill Road, Bay View Avenue, Milner Road and Tamboerskloof Road
• In Vredehoek: Vredehoek Avenue, Gardenia Avenue and Barnham Avenue

Residents and motorists in these areas are encouraged to exercise caution and follow any temporary traffic arrangements put in place during the road resurfacing period.
