Attacq Limited has announced that its recently launched Courtyard Hotel Waterfall has been awarded the Green Building Council South Africa’s (GBCSA) 4-star green rating for Best Practice.

This certification makes Courtyard Hotel the first hotel – and the 21st building within the precinct – to be recognised for best-class sustainability and green design.

The 4-star green certification is internationally acclaimed, and it provides an objective measurement for green buildings, recognizing and rewarding environmental leadership within the property sector.

It is a great honour for another one of our buildings, Courtyard Hotel Waterfall City, to be recognised for its sustainability standards and environmental consciousness. We are pleased that our efforts in making Waterfall City and Logistics Hub safe, sustainable spaces is paying dividends, affirming our commitment to sound environmental stewardship and best in class green design” comments Giles Pendleton, Chief Development Officer at Attacq.

One of the node’s attractions and lifestyle offerings, Courtyard Hotel Waterfall City, launched phase 1 in March 2021. The first phase included commercial spaces such as the basement, ground floor and ninth floor, as well as 84 bedrooms and four suites. The remaining 80 rooms will be brought online in subsequent phases in line with demand.

Following the standards set out with all Waterfall City developments, the Courtyard Hotel was built with environmentally friendly principles in mind. The hotel has implemented efficient water and electrical designs and intelligent metering systems and software to consolidate data displayed on permanent screens strategically placed within the foyer to ensure ongoing education and awareness for guests and staff. This initiative demonstrates the hotel’s commitment to maintaining sustainable practices beyond design and construction but throughout the development’s entire life cycle.

Smart, green designs are at the core of all our developments, particularly within the Waterfall precinct, and it is encouraging that the team’s dedication and hard work is being continuously recognised. At Attacq, we believe that buildings are an integral part of our communities; therefore, should be built in a sustainable way for the people and environment at large. This accolade brings us one step closer to becoming a world-class green city,” concludes Pendleton.
