About this development
Construction of the FS Zuurfontein wind energy facility and associated infrastructure on a site located approximately 53km north of Loeriesfontein within the Hantam Municipality in the Northern Cape. The proposed development will have a generation capacity of up to 368MW which will feed into the National Grid. The footprint is approximately 4 500 hectares and will be located on Remaining Extent of the Farm Zuur Fontein 224, Portion 1 of the Farm Zuur Fontein 224 and Remaining Extent of the Farm Zand Kraal 223. The development will consist of up to 46 wind turbines. Each turbine will have a hub height of up to 150m and a rotor diameter of up to 175m. Additional ancillary infrastructure would include underground and above-ground cabling between project components, onsite substation/s, battery energy storage systems (BESS), foundations to support turbine towers, internal/ access roads linking the wind turbines and other infrastructure on the site, permanent workshop area and office for control, maintenance and storage. As far as possible, existing roads will be utilised and upgraded with the relevant stormwater infrastructure and gates constructed as required. The perimeter may be enclosed with suitable fencing. A formal laydown area for the construction period, containing a temporary maintenance and storage building along with a guard cabin will also be established.
