About this development
Construction of the FS Zuurfontein photovoltaic solar energy facility and associated infrastructure on a site located approximately 53km north of Loeriesfontein within the Hantam Municipality, in the Northern Cape. The footprint is approximately 1237ha and will be located on Remaining Extent of the Farm Zoutpans Fontein 267, Remaining Extent of the Farm Zuur Fontein 224, Portion 1 of the Farm Zuur Fontein 224 and Remaining Extent of the Farm Zand Kraal 223. The SEF will have a generation capacity of up to 800MW which will feed into the National Grid. The facility will consist of PV panels. Additional ancillary infrastructure would include underground and above-ground cabling between project components, onsite substation/s, battery energy storage systems (BESS), mounting systems to support the PV panels, internal/ access roads up to 10 m in width linking the PV panels and other infrastructure on the site, and permanent workshop area and office for control, maintenance and storage. As far as possible, existing roads will be utilised and upgraded with the relevant stormwater infrastructure and gates constructed as required. The perimeter may be enclosed with suitable fencing. A formal laydown area for the construction period, containing a temporary maintenance and storage building along with a guard cabin will also be established.
