Project overview
About this development
Construction of the FS Fossil photovoltaic solar energy facility and associated infrastructure on a site located approximately 77km north of Loeriesfontein within the Hantam Municipality, in the Northern Cape. The solar facility footprint is approximately 857 hectares and will be located on Portion 2 of the Farm Karree Doorn Pan 214. The solar farm will have a generation capacity of up to 450MW which will feed into the national grid and will consist of PV panels. Additional ancillary infrastructure would include underground and above-ground cabling between project components, onsite substation/s, battery energy storage systems (BESS), mounting systems to support the PV panels, internal/ access roads, up to 10m in width, linking the PV panels and other infrastructure on the site, and permanent workshop area and office for control, maintenance and storage. As far as possible, existing roads will be utilised and upgraded with the relevant stormwater infrastructure and gates constructed as required. The perimeter may be enclosed with suitable fencing. A formal laydown area for the construction period, containing a temporary maintenance and storage building along with a guard cabin will also be established. The GPS has been estimated at Portion 2 of the Farm Karree Doorn Pan 214 30°20'26.1"S 19°30'03.3"E
