Tender Details Namibia Power Corporation (Pty) Ltd (NamPower) invites turn-key contractors for project management, design & engineering, manufacturing, factory testing, procurement, supply, installation, training, commissioning & site acceptance testing of HVDC converters, synchronous condensers, static VAR compensators (as required), extensions to the existing substations & earth electrodes. Scope of work includes the HVDC converter stations at Zambezi substation, located near Katima Mulilo & Gerus substation, located near Otjiwarongo, synchronous condensers & static VAR compensators as required to meet specified performance requirements & earth electrodes. HVDC scheme consists of a 350 kV DC bi-polar scheme with a transfer capability of 600 MW, & earth electrodes to allow scheme to be operated in mono-polar mode. Scheme constructed in 2 stages. Transfer capability in the 1st stage will be 400 MW & in 2nd stage will be 600 MW. Contractor to perform studies & design appropriate to both stage 1 & stage 2. Contract awarded for this tender will be for implementation of 1st stage only. Prices for the second stage will be requested as an option. Length of the HVDC line connecting Zambezi and Gerus is approximately 970km. The HVDC line and earth electrode lines will be awarded under a separate contract. A review of each Company’s technical and financial proposal will be carried out. Those technical proposals not considered eligible will be rejected completely without any further notification.
