Expansion of the Umzikantu Red Meat Abattoir and Meat Processing Plant. Umzikantu meat abattoir and processing plant is situated within the Umtata city centre and consists of a feedlot, abattoir and meat processing plant. The Abattoir currently is not utilized to full capacity and has outdated and unmaintained equipment. An opportunity exists to upgrade and operate the facility. The aim of this initiative is for the facility to have capacity to produce final outputs on site to supply both local and provincial retailers. The existing property is located on a 4 hectare plot and the size of the property does not allow for further expansion, however adjacent land would need to be purchased should building expansion take place. The abattoir is located in the city of Mthatha, in the Eastern Cape.
