About this development

Belgian company Sander International Textiles, a Belgian high-end niche textile producer, is to invest about R200 million to build a sophisticated weaving mill at Coega near Port Elizabeth in the Eastern Cape. Sander International have signed a 20 year lease for the plant. Phase 1 of the project will include the construction of a Weaving Mill to the Textile Industry specifications, complete with positive pressure lint extraction process and a finishing facility. The 1st phase will be completed in November 2005. Phase 2 will come on stream in the middle of 2006, with Phase 3 planned to commence by the end of 2006 – composed of a Dyeing Facility and Yarn Production. 52 new state of the art machines that SIRSA will use on the Coega IDZ will be imported from Germany and Belgium. 36 are due for delivery at the end of August 2005.
