Project overview
About this development
Rejuvenation project of Alice, in the Eastern Cape will include the creation of a railway station, a central heritage site and a waterfront precinct, costing R99,6million. The waterfront precinct will reinstate the historic lake or wetland area as a symbolic link to the pre-colonial landscape of Edikeni, simultaneously resolving the current problem of sewage leakage into the formal lake cavity. The waterfront will be a leisure recreational facility as interface and threshold between the University of Fort Hare, which can also accommodate future high density mixed economic and recreational opportunities . The railway station precinct will have its own set of economic activities linking the main tourist area to a proper transport system. The central heritage precinct would have cultural and economic activity, private investment and a downtown hub for shopping and vending.
