Project overview

About this development

Proposed redevelopment of the West Bank racetrack in East London, Eastern Cape. An East London landmark, the Grand Prix racetrack on the West Bank, could soon make way for a Walter Sisulu University (WSU) campus for a 6000-strong student population. This emerged during a meeting between Buffalo City Development Agency (BCDA) officials, West Bank residents and the motorsport fraternity. At the meeting, the BCDA unveiled two proposals that, if approved, could see the racetrack transformed into either an exclusive motorsport development or a mixed land use development. The first option will see motorsport activities as the main feature and will include a driving academy, while the second includes a university campus and residence for 6000 students, a “low impact” racetrack and a “Techno Park”. First Option.
