About this development
Development of an oil refinery, which is expected to come on stream in 2015, will have the capacity to produce about 300 000 barrels of refined oil a day, expected to be the biggest in South Africa. PetroSA, the state-owned oil company, has announced plans to invest about R80 billion over the next six years in building a new crude oil refinery. The site of the 1000ha refinery was identified as being on the landward side of the N2 highway close to the Coega River. The project is estimated at $11 billion.
