Container terminal port of Ngqura, Port Elizabeth

Construction of a container terminal at the port of Ngqura (Coega) near Port Elizabeth, Eastern Cape. The container terminal will be able to handle 800 000 twenty-foot equivalent unit (teu) containers a year. The terminal will be equipped with ship-to-shore cranes, gantry cranes and a tractor hauler combination. Scope of work will include surfacing the terminal, drainage, buildings and installing and wiring an electrical substation. The development of the port has cost an estimated R3.9 billion. This project includes the construction of an administration building, mess and ablution facilities, valued at R67-million. The 60 000ha Ngqura Container terminal development will cost an estimated R12.7 billion.
