About this development
Construction of a R1 billion, 135-room five-star hotel and international conference centre, by Emfuleni, operators of the Boardwalk casino complex in Port Elizabeth, Eastern Cape, if it is successful with its bid to have its licence renewed for a further 15 years. Emfuleni intends to construct a “smoking casino”, restaurants, health spa and a “must- see-must-do” multimedia lake spectacular. The 3 000m² conference centre will have seating for 2 294 people. The hotel will be built on the site of the existing Oriental Village. The parkade will house close to 900 vehicles. Part of the proposal by one of the bidders is a R1,8-billion waterfront entertainment complex at the harbor on a largely disused 18000m² piece of land in the vicinity of the Algoa Bay Yacht Club.
