Construction of an aluminum smelter at Coega, Eastern Cape. This project entails the construction and operation of a primary aluminum smelter incorporating two potlines, each with 336 pots (electrolytic cells); a carbon plant and rodding sop for the production of carbon anode blocks; and casthouse for the casting of aluminum ingots. The total area of the site is 120ha. Of the 120 ha, 42,5 will consist of buildings and other hardened surfaces, such as roads, parking and paved areas. Value: $3,25-billion.
