Zibulo (Zondagsfontein) Coal Mine, Mpumalanga

Development of four proposed coal-mine projects - Elders, Zondagsfontein, New Largo and Heidelberg - which would, in the next decade, have a collective capacity of 48 mtpa a year. Zondagsfontein is located approximately 9km south-west of Kendal in the Mpumalanga Province. Life of this mine is estimated at 20 years with estimated saleable tonnes at 2.5 mtpa for domestic use and 3.5 mtpa for export. The Zondagsfontein coal project will be a multi product operation, delivering six million tons a year from its underground mine and open cast pit over a life of 20 years, consisting of three million tons a year of thermal export product and three million tons a year of domestic product; coal reserves are over 250 million tons.
