About this development
Werm Mining (Pty) Ltd has applied to prospect for coal on Portions 2, 9, 10, 11 and a portion of portion 4 of the farm Gemsbokfontein 231 JR and portion 7 of the farm Gemsbokspruit 229 JR situated in the magisterial district of Kwamhlanga, Mpumalanga. The farms are located next to the Tweefontein, Vlaklaagte and Maza communities. 58 boreholes will be drilled using a reverse circulation, wire line core drilling rig. The drill rig will be powered by a diesel engine and water will be used to lubricate the drill bit. For this purpose water will be obtained from the Gemsbokspruit spruit and will be transported to the drill site with a water bowser. After the drilling is completed rehabilitation commences. Rehabilitation includes the removal of contaminated soil, loosening compacted soil, re-vegetation if required, removal off all cores that may still be on site, removal of waste and the closure of all the holes.
