About this development
R1.3 billion investment to re-open the Voorspoed Mine in the Free State, which was closed in about 1912. Voorspoed will be De Beers Consolidated Mine's (DBCM) largest project in South Africa, since its Venetia mine, in Limpopo province, was commissioned in the 1980's. The mine is located 35km North-North-East of Kroonstad. The project entails the establishment of Voorspoed diamond mine, which should produce 900 000 carats a year. Project value: R1.3 billion.
