Vaal Pipeline Project, Mpumalanga

Construction of a 115 km pipeline to transfer water from the Vaal River Eastern Sub-system (VRESS) via large pumps, 1,9 metre diameter buried steel pipeline to Knoppiesfontein near Secunda. The project consists of a R 1,6-billion pipeline supply and installation contract, and a R 425-million construction contract for civil structures, mechanical, electrical and instrumental works. VRESAP, also known as the Vaal Pipeline Project. Estimated project cost : R2.5 billion. The project will be funded by the private sector and paid for through tariff charges to Eskom and Sasol. The debt incurred to finance the project will be paid over 20 years after the project has been completed.
