Transnet Coallink Project - Vryheid

Construction of the proposed Vryheid traction substation and associated power lines, as part of a suite of projects collectively known as the Ermelo - Richards Bay Coal link upgrade. The scope of works includes the construction an 88/25kV, 2 by 20MVA Traction Substation and associated 88kV (2x) and 25kV (2X)turn –in power lines, 4km south of Vryheid, KwaZulu-Natal. Only one substation site alternative is proposed. The substation site is located 1.5km south of the R34/R69 interchange and 50m east of the Ermelo-Richards Bay railway line. The proposed Transnet Coallink Project consisting of the construction of transmission substations, upgrading of existing transmission power lines and the construction of new transmission power lines traversing KwaZulu-Natal and Mpumalanga Provinces, from Empangeni to Ermelo south.
