About this development
Sasol is developing two new coal mines in Secunda in Mpumalanga. The first coal mine Sasol will be investing in is Thubelisha (formerly called Rooipoort). The project involves the building of a completely new mine with new shaft infrastructure and development. It is a greenfield project. The middling coal from Thubelisha will report to the Sasol Synfuels factory and the export-quality coal to the Richards Bay Coal Terminal for export at a ratio of 40% synfuels coal, 40% export coal and 20% discard coal. R3.1 billion in capital expenditure has been allocated to the project.
