About this development
Construction of the 140MW Sutherland Wind Energy Facility and associated infrastructure on a site located approximately 23km south of Sutherland and 50km north of Laingsburg on Portion 1 of Beeren Valley Farm 150; Remaining Extent of Beeren Valley Farm 150; Portion 1 of Boschmanskloof Farm 9; Portion 1 of Botmanshoek Farm 10; Portion 1 of Schietfontein Farm 179 and Remaining Extent of Nooitgedacht Farm 148 in the Karoo Hoogland Municipality and the Namakwa District Municipality, Northern Cape Province. It also extends into the Western Cape under the jurisdiction of the Laingsburg Local Municipality and the Central Karoo District Municipality. The key components of the authorised Sutherland WEF include, inter alia, the following: 56 wind turbines; internal and external electrical connections; 15m wide access roads that are 6km in length and additional infrastructure including a lay down area, a temporary site compound area for contractors and a borrow pit. The GPS co-ordinates have been placed at the entrance to the site: 32°36'33.4"S 20°56'36.7"E
