About this development
Tronox KZN Sands (Pty) Ltd (Tronox) is proposing to expand the existing residue storage facility (RSF) and associated infrastructure at Fairbreeze mine onto the adjacent Everglades farm (portion 1 of lot 85 Obanjeni no. 9141). The property of 202ha is situated west of the N2 Highway and approximately 3.5km south-west of Mtunzini. The farm has been purchased by Tronox and is currently under sugarcane. The Everglades RSF design includes the following main components: The Everglades RSF, 4x return water ponds, expansion of the existing Valley RWD by excavating the side slopes and high ground around the existing basin, stormwater management infrastructure (berms, trenches, pipes, etc.) and realignment of the existing 88kV Eskom power line servitude from the southern to the northern boundary of Everglades Farm.
