Proposed Eerstelingsfontein Coal Mine, Belfast

Exxaro Coal is proposing to establish an open cast coal mine on the farm Eerstelingsfontein 406JT (Mpumalanga), approximately 20km south of Belfast on the R33 road between Belfast and Carolina in Mpumalanga. The Eerstelingsfontein (Farm 406 JT) coal reserve comprises low sulphur coal at a depth of between 5 and 19 meters. The proposed coal mine will cover a total development footprint of approximately 227 hectares and will involve the open cast mining of around 4 million tons of coal over a period of approximately 2 years
