About this development
The Penumbra Coal Project is a bituminous coal mine situated 8 km south-east of Ermelo CBD in Mpumalanga and is forecast to be developed at capital costs of ZAR284 million. The project will be developed as a conventional underground bord-and-pillar mining operation. Access to the coal seam will be achieved by establishing a portal and sinking twin declines at 8° to the coal seam. The declines will be around 200 m long, one equipped with a conveyor and the other serving as a men-and-material access route.
