Project overview
About this development
Ruukki SA has embarked on an expansion project aimed at increasing its ferrochrome production by the end of 2013. The expansion plan is based on the addition of two 70 MW DC furnaces to Ruukki's current operations. In order to provide electricity to the furnaces (for smelting of ferrochrome) Ruukki SA plans to build its own coal-fired power station with a generating capacity of approximately 250 - 300 MW, that will supply power for the planned expansion. The site that has been selected is on the same property as the decommissioned Wilge Power Station, near Phola and Ogies in Mpumalanga.
