N2 Gateway Project, Cape Town - Delft Symphony Precincts

Delft Symphony Precincts 1-6 forms part of the N2 Gateway Project which seeks to build 22 000 units to house communities abutting the N2 freeway, outside Cape Town in the Western Cape. The project will include associated infrastructure, community facilities and access to transportation economic opportunities. The project is aimed at providing integrated and sustainable development to about 100000 people. The project will also be used as a pilot for the new national housing policy. Electricity provision has been a challenge and consequently the Department of Housing has implemented a pilot project in which a hybrid wind and photo voltaic generation were installed at the site. The generator which had already been installed, would provide lighting for ten houses in the new development. The project will cost R3 billion when the 22 000 units are finally completed.
