About this development
Upgrading and expansion of the existing Moatize Coal mine, in Tete Province of Mozambique, to provide coal for the export and local market. The Moatize mine, extensively damaged during Mozambique's civil war in the 1970s and 1980s, is believed to hold about 2.4 billion tonnes of coal reserves, making it one of the largest untapped deposits in the southern hemisphere. Project value: $1.3 billion.
