About this development
The project involves the optimal extraction of the orebody within the lower mine area of the Moab Khotsong, beneath the farm Zaaiplaats in the Free State. The project will extend the mine's life to 2035 and entails the deepening of the mine from 101 level to 105 level. The most important of these blocks are the Zaaiplaats blocks (Zaaiplaats, Area A, B and C), positioned to the south-west of the current Moab Khotsong infrastructure and extending below the existing mine.The extension could generate an estimated 5,1 million ounces of gold at a production rate of 370 000 oz/y. The Zaaiplaats extension has been broken into three phases. The project is estimated at R8 billion. The first phase of the project will cost R140 million.
