About this development
Upgrading of the Matla Power Station. Eight additional silicon carbide furnaces. Each furnace will consist of a transformer room of approximately 6 meters in height, and 10 meters square. There will be underground installation of power cables and power distribution. The depth of the power distribution will be in the extent of 2m deep. Each furnace will have three stockpiles mix used in the furnacing process. The surrounding area will be surfaced with a suitable covering i.e asphalt or concrete. Access roads will be placed between the furnace stock piles. Concrete storage bunkers will be placed around the plant for storage of materials. Power for the plant will be sourced from the Eskom distribution network and a substation will be placed on Sublimes site. A dirty water catch dam will be installed on the northern boundary of the property to contain contaminated water during heavy rain storms. This water will be then be re-used on the furnaces. Location between Volksrust and Amersfoort in Mpumalanga. Project value : R 617 million.
