About this development
Construction of a 600 MW discard coal fired power plant, proposed to be constructed at Tweefontein Colliery and will be known as the Lesedi Power Plant. The proposed power plant will be located within Xstrata's Tweefontein Colliery concession area on the remaining portions of farms Waterpan 8 IS, Tweefontein 13 IS and Boschmansfontein 12 IS. The Tweefontein Colliery is approximately 7km east of Ogies on the R555 within the Emalahleni Local Municipality and the Nkgangala District Municipality in Mpumalanga. The power plant will use discard coal sourced from the new or existing wash plants and existing discarded dumps. Discard is to be transported to the plant via overland conveyors.
