About this development

Keaton Energy is to proceed with its fourth coal mining project, Leeuwfontein, 35km south of Middelburg in Mpumalanga. Leeuwfontein is relatively small, covering some nine hectares, and contains a coal resource of 922000 mineable in situ tons. Leeuwfontein will become the second of Keaton Energy’s two smaller, short-life open-cast projects, after the Klip Colliery. Keaton Energy plans to produce two million tons of coal a year in the medium term.
