Koornfontein Mine, Hendrina, Mpumalanga

The Koornfontein Mine in Hendrina, Mpumalanga proposes to include in future extensions to its current operations the following: the development of the four seam at the mine as well as, a box-cut adjacent to the Komati Power Station (i.e. Blinkpan box-cut); Contingency box-cut on Aberdeen 158 IS; Two open cast sections at the Leeuwfontein farm with an associated box-hole; An open cast section north of the proposed Blinkpan box-cut; A series of overhead and underground conveyors servicing all three areas; A conveyor inspection road is proposed at Aberdeen; All associated infrastructure i.e. offices, workshops, wash houses, water supply facilities and a potential explosives magazine; and existing electricity substations and associated structures are proposed to be utilised while new distribution powerlines are also proposed.
