About this development
Construction of a dam to contain affected mine water. For Middelburg Mines' North Section which is divided into 3 mining areas namely, Hartbeesfontein, Goedehoop and Bankfontein. All 3 areas fall within the Spookspruit catchment. The affected water from the mining areas is currently contained through a series of pollution control dams at each section. Additional storage capacity is required at the Goedehoop Section for containing mine affected water. For this purpose, the Goedehoop Dam will be constructed in a tributary of the Spookspruit downstream of the mining areas. Water will be stored and evaporated to prevent release into the Spookspruit, with planned future treatment and supply to the Steve Tshwete Local Municipality. The Goedehoop Dam will be located on the portion 5 of the farm Goedehoop, approximately 12km south of Middelburg, Mpumalanga.
