About this development
Construction of the Gecko wind energy facility on Remainder Extent of Farm Eldoret 274, Farm Mt Vera 319, Farm England 318, Remainder Extent of Farm Riries 320 and Portion 1 of Farm Riries 320 approximately 21 kilometres southeast of the town Hotazel, Northern Cape. The proposed facility will consist of the following infrastructure: Turbines (number to be confirmed during the EIA phase), concrete and/or steel, or combination of concrete and steel turbine foundations to support the turbines, cabling to connect the wind turbines to the onsite substations, to be laid underground and overhead, where applicable, Inverters and transformers, Electrical and auxiliary equipment to support the function of the substation, including substation yard, control buildings, fences etc., camera surveillance, internet connection, battery energy storage system (BESS), laydown and crane hardstand areas, site office and maintenance buildings including workshop and storage area as well as parking for staff and visitors, access roads of 6m wide which excludes drainage width of up to 3m on either side of the road. Passing areas are proposed for trucks where these portions will be expanded by 5m making the total road width in these areas up to 11 metres. Lay-byes are 70m in length allowing for trucks to safely pass one another. The proposed development area is approximately 6 278 hectares in extent. The total planned installed capacity will be up to 400MW. The approximate GPS coordinates are 27°14'32.2"S 23°04'36.6"E
