Flamink Vlei Project - Infrastructure

Construction of services and infrastructure on two adjacent properties near the mouth of the Berg River, for the Flamink Vlei project. More than 1 100 residential units are proposed in this aquaculture project. The two properties are located on the Cape Town side of the Berg River where it enters the sea at Velddrif. The combined property, which extends on either side of the bridge at the entrance to the town, is about 510 ha of which more than 200 ha is covered by water, and has a river frontage of close on 6 km. The multi-faceted development will not encroach on the river bank but will be located in and around a series of existing sea-water ponds next to the river. The development will include the construction of an artificial island of about 35 ha in the biggest pond. Soil from excavations elsewhere will be used to create the island.
