About this development
Kriel colliery is situated 45km south of Witbank, near Bethal, Mpumalanga, and was established in 1975 to provide coal for Eskom’s Kriel Power Station. Anglo American has been requested by Eskom to extend the life of mine from 2019 to 2039 to provide coal to the Kriel power Station. In order to achieve this Kriel is investigating all possible future mining possibilities. This project is for the proposed extensions to the mining activities at Pits 11 and 13 and associated infrastructure at Kriel Colliery.
