About this development
Development of four proposed coal-mine projects - Elders, Zondagsfontein, New Largo and Heidelberg - which would, in the next decade, have a collective capacity of 48 mtpa a year. Elders, Mpumalanga. Life of this mine is estimated at 32 years with estimated saleable tonnes at 10.5 mtpa. Elders would consist of both an underground and opencast mine that would supply Eskom with coal as well as coal for export via Richards Bay. The mine, located near Bethal, could produce 7 million tons a year.
