About this development
The Elandspruit coal reserve will be mined by opencast mining methods (Truck and Shovel method). The No. 1, 2 and 4 seams will be mined concurrently. Concurrent rehabilitation will take place. The estimated life of the mine is 16 years. Infrastructure associated with the proposed mining operation will be constructed on site. The proposed mining operation is situated on portions of the farm Elandspruit 291 JS, Middelburg, Mpumalanga.The Elandspruit mining right contains five potentially mineable coal seams, which occur from suboutcrop to a maximum depth of about 70 m below surface. At this stage of project evaluation, no coal reserves have been declared, as further work is required to develop a final LoM plan.
