Driefontein Coal Mine

Development of a coal mining project at the Farm Driefontein 338JS, Portion 9, in Middelburg, Mpumalanga. Driefontein Colliery is located near Witbank to the south of the N12 and to the north east of the Duvha Power Station in the Mpumalanga Province It is situated approximately 20 kilometres southeast of eMalahleni (Witbank). Access to Driefontein Colliery is via a gravel road off the R575. Mining will be conducted by open cast method, employing truck-and-shovel lateral rollover mining technique. This means that rehabilitation of the mine will take place while the mining processes are still underway at a different section/ strip. The proposed colliery will have an expected life of 17 months.
