About this development
Construction of the 1000MW Carissa Wind Energy Facility and associated infrastructure, located near Beaufort West, Western Cape. The development area is 41 699ha in size, the affected properties include: Portion 6 of Farm Dale Ajalon No. 322; Portion 3 of Farm Vlakfontein No. 325; Farm Meyers Poort No. 326; Portions 3 and 6 of Farm Jagers Kraal No. 327; Remaining Extent and Portions 2 and 3 of Farm Vetkoe Kraal No. 369; Remaining Extent and Portions 1 and 2 of Farm Palmietfontein No. 370; Remaining Extent of Portion 11 and Portions 1, 2, 8, 10, 12, 14, 16, 19, 20, 24, 25 of Farm Brits Eigendom No. 374; Remaining Extent and Portions 4 and 6 of Farm No. 380; Remaining Extent and Portion 1 of the Farm Trakas Kuilen No. 15. The scope of work includes but is not limited to: 176 wind turbines; two on-site facility substations and Eskom switching stations (up to 132 kV); an on-site 400 kV / 132 kV main transmission substation (MTS); up to 132 kV double circuit overhead power lines to connect the facility to the proposed MTS (on-site or off-site Eskom MTS); up to 400 kV LILO connection to connect / tie the proposed MTS into the existing 400 kV overhead power lines; auxiliary buildings; battery energy storage systems (BESS); temporary and permanent laydown areas; batching plant; internal and perimeter access roads. It is the intention of the client to develop the project in order to contribute renewable energy to Phase 1 of the Hive Green Hydrogen facility proposed within the Port of Ngqura. The GPS co-ordinates are 32°47'25.0"S 22°30'29.0"E.
