Project overview
About this development
Development of the 10MW Chelsea Solar Photovoltaic Plant on Portion 117 and the remaining extent of the Farm Little Chelsea 10 in Little Chelsea, Minor Road, near Port Elizabeth, Eastern Cape Province. The main components of Solar PV for this project include the following: A Single Axis Tracking Solar PV Panel and Arrays: The Solar panels consist of PV cells, modules and arrays used for, generation of electricity and absorption of solar radiation. Mounting Structures: Multiple PV modules bolted onto a mounting structure which tracks the sun’s progress across the sky. Inverters: The inverter will convert the direct current (DC) to alternating current (AC). The inverter and transformer are anticipated to be housed within the same inverter station housing (typically an insulated, steel-framed 6m shipping container, or small brick building). Substation: The substation receives all power from the inverters via underground cables and provides protection and control equipment. The proposed project will connect to the existing mushroom farm substation on the site. A Battery Energy Storage System (BESS): The BESS will allow for the storage of surplus energy generated by the solar PV facility for later use. The proposed BESS will have a storage capacity of 2102kWh up to 2000kVA. The GPS coordinates are 33°56'53.4"S 25°25'06.3"E .
