An exciting project to upgrade infrastructure in Mossel Bay is well under way at the Pinnacle Point Wastewater Treatment Works (WWTW).

The plant is being upgraded from a 2ML/day to a 7ML/day plant to accommodate the future development within the catchment area of the Louis Fourie Corridor, Mountain View low-cost housing, Dana Bay, Pinnacle Point, Nautilus Bay and Mossdustria area.

The total contract value of the construction project is R86 881 095.60.

This was awarded to Amandla/Kubeka JV and 10% to a local sub-contractor.

The construction work commenced in June 2023 after the environmental authorisation was received. It is anticipated the project will be completed in about April 2025.

To date 486 working days were created, employing local, unskilled labour, assisting with the construction of the works.

The project is being administered by WEC Consult, a consulting engineering firm. The upgrade to the works includes the construction of a new inlet works, biological reactor, clarifier, distribution boxes, RAS pump station and a sludge dewatering facility.

The upgrade will improve the performance of the Pinnacle Point WWTW to meet the Department of Water and Sanitation Green Drop requirements and will accommodate all the new developments within the catchment area.
