As Durban's northern reservoirs recover from a water outage that lasted a little over a week, City officials say money has been budgeted to improve water infrastructure.



"Repairs on all infrastructure that was identified as damaged by the floods has been completed and more than R30 million had been spent on the repairs and the construction on the affected infract," says Chairperson of Governance and Human Capital Committee Councillor Nkosenhle Madlala.



"The municipality has budgeted R1 billion for water services for the 2023/23 financial year, part of this budget will be spend on the southern aqueduct project which will address water supply challenges in Umlazi and other surrounding areas."



On Monday a team from the city visited affected reservoirs in Umhlanga and Durban North.



Madlala says they are aware other areas including - Ntuzuma, KwaXimba, Folweni, Umlazi, Ngonyameni, Umbumbulu, KwaNyuswa and Adams are also affected. 



He says a R2.1 billion budget will also be spent on other water loss interventions.



"The maintenance of our facilities is vital to ensure that they city is capitated to deliver acceptable standards. Due to increased in demand projects to improve water to supply will continue."
