About this development
Old Mutual Properties has proposed the development of 250 000m² of space, including restaurants, entertainment and arts and crafts districts, two family hotels, a residential area and theme and office parks, called Zonk' Izizwe, near Grand Central Airport in Midrand, Gauteng. There will also be a 15,000-car parking garage. The proposed development includes a road flyover structure on New Road between the N1 Freeway and the R101. It is located adjacent to the Grand Central Airport, as well as a major national highway, and would also incorporate a new Gautrain rapid rail link station. The development aims to reduce vehicle-use by the careful placing of buildings to provide access to public transportation, bicycle paths, the lake and walking access to basic services, in order to minimise environmental impact. Linked to the upgrading of the N1 and the proposed Gautrain project.
