Zilkaats Eco-Estate, Hartebeespoort Dam, North West

A massive new development is planned for the northern slopes of the Hartebeespoort Dam. Brits is only 8km away and Schoemansville less than 10 minutes drive, in North West Province. Launched in September 2007, the complete Zilkaats eco-estate will overshadow all other developments in the area in terms of size. Located on 2000 hectares of land, the first phase will comprise 1000 homes built on stands of 1500m² with a second phase almost as large that will be due for completion by 2012. The R27m perimeter walls extend for 32km. A gatehouse with 24-hour security. Two clubhouses and in phase 2 a village area will be created that will contain a school, shopping centre, driving range, putting greens and a couple of retirement villages. The estate is expected to cost R5 billion in total.
