About this development

Construction of an 18 MWp Solar Photovoltaic Plant and a 40 MWh Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) with associated grid infrastructure on the Busheshe area (Shehia of Kijini) and the ZECO Kidatu area (Shehia of Mtoni Kidatu) in Makunduchi (South District) and West A District, Unguja Island, Tanzania. Project is estimated to cost approximately $142 million to $152 million. Scope of works could include: Design, supply, and installation of an 18 MWp solar PV plant at Makunduchi. Installation of a standalone 40 MWh Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) at Mtoni Kidatu to stabilise the grid. Transmission and substation work includes: Construction of a 132/33kV substation at Makunduchi and the establishment of a 100km, 132kV high-voltage transmission backbone across Unguja. Systems integration to include: Installation of a grid-wide SCADA system for real-time monitoring and civil works on a 1.33-hectare site at Mtoni. The GPS marker has been placed at the Makunduchi Solar Site in the Kijini, -6.4069, 39.5539.
